Camp Jude is for those with special circumstances and Tate is the highest order they've had to fill.

Worried that he'll be seen as nothing more than a freak, he isolates himself from the others in hopes his behaviour will overshadow anyone's curiosity about his condition. However, when the camp's baseball team needs another member, Tate steps up without thinking through the consequences.
