Mai wasn't who she said she was, she ran away from her old life to save herself and the ones she cared about, until she was told to be needed, that things were going downhill, so she left the new life she created for herself. She left her SPR family in Japan and Naru,Gene and Lin who went back to England and went back to her old life, to the person she really was.
