Captain John Webber joined up with the paratroopers when he was eighteen, excited and enraged over the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Jumping out of planes couldn't be hard. He would get an extra fifty dollars a month, too.

He grew close with his company- Easy, of the 101st Airborne Division. Close enough to be brothers. He stuck with his group of friends through scrubbing toilets, jumps, and killing Germans. He learned quickly that war was nothing like the propaganda that he'd seen. There was no glory, no gold, no girls.

As an old man, John looks back on his experiences, both good and bad. All of them contain one man: Lieutenant Charlie Raskopf.
