Paladins and Blackguards have been at war for millennia with each side battling for the fate of souls. Nevertheless, the war has become routine. The Organizations and Families in power are just going through the motions. They've seen it all and done it all. However, what if that isn't the case? What if someone new shows up who is unlike anything they've encountered? Where did he come from? And more importantly, what is he? They send agents to find the answers. But unfortunately for them, the answers only lead to more questions.

Matt has been tormented by a voice in his head since he was a child. It has brought him nothing but misery and made him an outcast amongst his peers. The only way to rid himself of the voice for a short time is to die. Fortunately, for Matt, he can't seem to stay dead. He has been on a cycle of death since he was a freshman in high school. About to start college and grasping at the hope of a normal life, Matt makes a deal with the voice. If the voice can behave, Matt will stop the cycle.

With the deal in place, Matt begins college cautiously optimistic, but when Matt learns two shadow organizations have sent agents to investigate him, it opens up a world full of myth and legend. As they dig into Matt's past, secrets are divulged and Matt starts to question everything he thought was true.
