I've never had the luxury of being able to say that I visited the childhood homes that my parents grew up in. I've never taken trips to grandmas have, and I don't have any fond memories of making cookies with her in the kitchen. I've never stepped foot in the streets that my mother played in as a child or met the people who raised her or grew up with her. I've never grasped this idea of home. I've never been able to find a strong sense of belonging. Not here, not in the USA. Because this is not where my story belongs, this is not where my life started. I seek to find my belonging, to understand a culture that I was ripped from. I belong to Laos.
