Why did America become so bland? Why had everyone become so...robotic?

Seven years ago kids could wear whatever they wanted, There were no dress codes, no law that house had to be the same color, nothing that said everyone had to have the same phone and oil company's and the same clothes. And certainly no law that forced everyone to change their names to something more average like Ava or Briana.
When two girls named Ocean and Coral have to change their names to Ava and Briana at the age of six, they figure out something's not right. Will taking action seven years later lead them to a dead end? Or will it expose them to secrets that the governments been hiding for YEARS?
