Selene is a college freshman who lives in Portland. She's always been smart. Always. Until, she meets a successful, charming, and humorous man at a local bar. As she quickly learns he's responsible for destroying her life as she knew it to be, Selene realizes she may be in too deep. Will she ever escape his possessive hold on her?

He was the type of guy you dreamed of meeting at a greasy, dimly-lit bar on a Thursday night. He'd be the one to order a glass of Casa Noble Crystal tequila on the rocks and sip it once every minute.
He was wearing, of course, a denim jean jacket and an urban-looking pair of black pants and a grey shirt. He looked about 23 maybe 26, almost caramel skin and dark, neat hair. I realized I had been staring a little bit too long when he raised his drink from the table to about nose height in a "cheers" motion, which I reciprocated, caught off-guard. He smiled and we both took a sip. I looked down once again, embarrassed.
He sat down across from me in the booth. I looked up in a bit of shock, not expecting him to approach me. I slowly took my AirPods out.
"Hello, beautiful."

She stops just a few feet away, the bathroom door in front of her, the water running steadily inside. She debates with herself for a moment, hesitating. Is it too intrusive to fucking peek? Would Selene even care? The thoughts swirl, but Ayla's curiosity gets the best of her. She leans closer to the door, her heart beating faster as she edges just a little closer, trying to catch a glimpse of what's happening inside. But before she can get too close, a voice, soft yet commanding, calls out from the bathroom. "You've got a lot of damn questions, don't you?" Ayla freezes, her breath caught in her throat, heart skipping a beat. Selene's voice is smooth, unaffected, as though she knew exactly what Ayla was thinking. Ayla straightens, a flush creeping up her neck, realizing she's been caught. "I-uh-I wasn't..." She stumbles for words, feeling embarrassed but also strangely intrigued. "I didn't mean to-" Selene interrupts her, though there's no judgment in her tone, just that same quiet confidence. "It's fine. Curiosity is natural." She had been alone with me before but the air in the car was excruciatingly lovely. It felt like home. It was as if she was my wife and I was just driving us home after a long day. That feeling of happiness when I was with her. Or even just the thought of her. Fuck. I grabbed a cigarette from out of one the cup holders and lit it up, trying to distract myself from her. I inhaled, but when I turned to look at Selene she was covering her nose with her shirt. I furrowed my brows and scowled. Did I smell? "What's wrong?" I softly asked. She glanced at me and shook her head gently, dismissing me. I clenched my jaw. When I pulled my hand up to inhale another smoke, it finally clicked. I quickly threw it out the window and turned the AC on, rolling our windows up. I felt her stare on the side of my face and gulped, trying my fucking best not to smile. "Why did you do that?" She asked me, her voice low. Almost sounding like she was whispering. I quickly shot her a glance before answering. "You have asthma." Her gaze darkened. It was so quiet I could hear her heart beating rapidly while we stared at each other. I couldn't help but want to reach up and kiss her, and hold her like she deserved. She swallowed her saliva and looked away, a smile starting to form on the corners of her lips. I chuckled, already knowing I couldn't escape her now. I wouldn't be able to. It'd be like not having oxygen. And so help me, God, if I didn't have my oxygen.
