I Got Flowers Today is a poem by Paulette Kelly focusing on domestic violence. If you have not read the poem yet, I highly suggest you do so that you understand what is going on. I had to write a story(like a short story) about the story within the poem and I got a really good grade in the class that I wrote it for and I'm extremely proud of my work so I thought I would share it here. All rights of the poem go to Paulette Kelly, who is a beautiful writer and what she writes about is very real and raw, stuff that happens every day in our world around us. If you are dealing with any kind of abuse, PLEASE seek help. Come talk to me, my door is always open, I am here for all of you. My story is based off of Paulette Kelly's poem, what I wrote is strictly inspiration off of her work. Thanks for reading!

For as long as Evelyn could remember, her home has never been a safe place. With the constant threat of her mother's erratic behaviour, Evelyn is nothing more than her punching bag. But one day, she finds an abandoned poem left on a park bench, and with it comes Darren. Darren is everything Evelyn is not- unadulterated, raw and so unapologetically himself. As he draws Evelyn into a world she has never know before, the ties between them begin to tighten. However, Darren isn't truly who he says he is, and as they start to get closer, Evelyn realises that she isn't the only one with secrets to hide. •weekly updates •trigger warning: themes of violence, abusive relationships and bullying Copyright © 2020 by MeowTheCatSays.
