My entry for National Geographic #planetorplastic contest.
I believe in reincarnation and a proven fact that the impact of every action inspires an equal an opposite reaction from the universe. My short story is based on these principles.
When we talk about saving the planet, it feels more an act of charity than self preservation. And we need to understand that it is solely self preservation. When my acts come to bite me in the behind, I am quickest to fix them. Hope my story puts forth this point well and clear.

The gods greed for power has grown and I'm now the prized target, I'm the oracle, that all gods want, even the underworld. I know longer think its a gift, its a curse that has destroyed my life, taking everything from me that I love, leaving me on my own to battle and stay strong. I am only safe when I find my mate, but thing are never that simple, especially when you have a mate, that never wanted to meet you, so the big question is will I ever be safe, will I ever get to stop running, and if I'm not, who is going to claim me as theirs if my own mate doesn't want me, the gods or the underworld. I have nothing left to lose, I already lost all hope the day I met him.......Complete
Inferni
I am the outcast, being different from the rest of my fellow orphans. I am a thief, stealing food and clothing from those that had more than me and a few other outcasted orphans. I am a protector, protecting the outcasts by letting myself go weak. I have to be this huge person to protect the supernatural and humans, but I know I am far too weak. I know that I have to try, but I can't help but wonder if someone would have been a better choice than I. I will try my best to keep on fighting until the end of time. Because I am Inferni.

Someone like you. You believe in me. Why? Where did you get that ring? Why does it match mine? How do I even remember something like that? I look familiar too? Are you sure? From where? Come with me we'll find out together. Let's be best friends, now let's be together forever. Never leave me again not that you had the choice. I died and came back it sounds like but you this is what you're made for. Protecting them believing in things even though you're a teenager now. But you keep believing why? I guess that's true even if you "grow up" in age you never have to really grow up as a human. There's something about you you're special to me to us. I won't let him hurt you.

The Moon Shines On Starlight
*Warning ahead content contains animal abuse It was dimmed. I couldn't see. Oh, but I could smell. The sweet scents all around me. Then I smelled her. I immediately knew who she was. My mother. My creator. I went over to her screaming my way between my two siblings. Although I was just a puppy, I could recognize my surroundings. When I was finished drinking the milk from my mother, I moved away. I felt a hard surface underneath me. There were plenty of other scents too. One that smelled delicious. I also couldn't hear, but I could feel movement. I was removed from the hard surface and handed a much softer place. There were these weird bumps over the softer surface. It moved me around, and I was set back down in place on the floor. A couple of weeks passed though I couldn't feel it. Each day felt as if I was still a newborn. Time was not essential in my mind. As I got older, my senses started to sharpen. I could see and hear, but the one thing I couldn't see was color. All I saw was black and gray. My mother was very furry, but so was I. I would often smell her, and I liked how her scent smelled sweet. When I could, I would find food around a dumpster. We were learning more as we got older. I had two sisters and two brothers, as I was one of the girls. We spoke to each other often, my siblings and me. "Let's go, children." Mother said to us in a soft voice. We knew how to communicate. When we fought over food mother, would tell at us. I didn't like being in trouble. I was usually quiet. One day I learned the soft surface that I had encountered was a human hand. I had felt that same surface when a human came up to us. The human loaded all of us in their vehicle. We came upon this strange building. The human let us out in this strange building. There were many scents. I couldn't place them all at once. I concentrated on one specific scent. Strawberry. It smelled so sweet, and it started to hurt my nose.Complete
HOOK
According to a story from the far reaches of the East, a man was walking alone at night along a steep path near a mountain peak. The sky was covered with thick clouds. It was pitch black. Suddenly, he stumbled, lost his footing and fell into the void. Instinctively, he reached out his hand and managed to grab onto a thick branch that extended out from the edge of the cliff. He called for help, but the only response was his own voice echoing through the ravine. There was no one there to hear him. A few hours later, he felt his strength abandoning him. His anguish grew. When he could hold on no more, the first light of dawn began to dissolve the dense darkness. He looked down and laughed as he saw that just a few inches below his feet, there was a large, flat rock. He could have let go of the branch at any time during the night and stood on it. But he would have done so without knowing. Without being certain. By overcoming every fear, real or imagined...Complete
Open your eyes
all of the light went out. i could see the light but i could never walk towards it. i loved the feel of the sun...but i was never allowed in it. i wouldnt melt like the others, and i wouldnt sparkle like the others and i would criple in pain. i would fight it...but i didnt want to hurt those closest to me, thats why i didnt let him in. we were so close, they all thought that we were together...even he was confused. i was confused...i cannot afford to hurt him. he means so much to me and yet i have only known him for such a little time. i guess to escape the darkness...all i need to do is open my eyes.Complete
