Addison found out he was gay when he turned twelve, he didn't tell his parents until he was fourteen. His father is abusive and thinks he's a disgrace to the family. His mother loves her son with everything she has and doesn't want him to be treated the way he is. But she's afraid of the outcome if she stands up for him. So technically, he's all alone, with no one to protect him from the horrible abuse he receives. William found out he was into guys when he was seventeen, it was all because of his first kiss with someone of the same sex. He liked it a lot more than he should have and couldn't dwell on the fact that he was homosexual. His father died a while ago and his mother wants the best for her son. She doesn't know he's gay and he honestly can't tell when he'll tell her. But once he meets Addison, everything changes. He doesn't care if people know he's into the same sex, he just wants to get to know him. He wants to be the one he can tell everything to. He wants to be the one that can protect him from any harm.

Clay had been closeted all his life and planned for it to remain that way. But, with having homophobic parents it was seemingly impossible to ever find the happiness he longed for. After being outed to the only people he now disliked the most, his parents react worse than expected and Clay falls into a pit of loneliness when he gets sent to conversion therapy to "turn him straight again". George had homophobic parents too and goes through the same. When times are at its worst somehow these two meet each other and now they are isolated from reality in the therapy school.
