When Tyler was 8 he got raped and sexually abused by his Father, when he was 10 he tried to commit suicide because of his fathers actions. These memories of his dad doing these hurtful things to him made him isolate himself afraid of someone hurting him like his father did. This trauma caused him develop 6 different personalities. Thus including Nicolas, Jeremiah, Sam, Jacob, Benny and Jon

Josh has been Tyler's best friend through thick and thin. He knows what Tyler has been through, he understands him. He stays there even know Tyler can be difficult at times especially when his personalities showing up and disappearing at different times and events. Still josh has a relationship with every one of them. He is closest to Tyler.
