This work is an extended review of The Guns of Normandy by George Blackburn  in honour all Canadian soldiers who died in Normandy 75 year ago and those who gave their lives more than 100 years ago in the first world war.  It describes the brutal battles with the elite infantry and tank divisions of the German Wehrmacht (arguable the best trained and equipped army in the world) after the Normandy D-Day landings.  

The British, Canadian and American tanks were totally outclassed by the German Panther and Tiger tanks.  The British Sten gun was very unreliable compared to the German MP 40 (Schmeisser) but the speed and response of the British and Canadian artillery was far superior to the German's.

The campaign was ultimately decided by Hitler's (the German dictator) strategic errors, the overwhelming allied air superiority and the tactical ingenuity and courageous determination of the allied aircrews, gunners, tankers and infantry.

You become known as "Shade", a mysterious cloaked criminal known for your stealth and strength. You took pride in your reputation, and the best part was, nobody knew anything about you. From your face down to you're gender, it was all concealed. It was all cloaked. But all this changed once they found you. They took you in, capturing you to mold you into a soldier fighting for the survey corps. You despised the survey corps at first. After all, they stole you from your home. Took you away from the people you loved. They ruined your life, right? But... did they? You're stubbornness and skill capture the attention of a certain short black haired male. Corporal Levi was humanities strongest though, he couldn't like you, could he? He couldn't... At first it seemed strange but pleasant to finally get noticed, but soon you realized, nothing good came from the Corporal. In fact, your life seemed to turn into a living Dystopia. The year is 2045. In order to train the next generation of air force pilots, countries around the world have turned air combat into a school sport, officially naming it "Fire Flight". Simply put, a fire flight is a simulated air combat scenario, be it air-to-air or air-to-surface, using dummy munitions to score hits on air/surface targets. It's been 2 decades since the sport was created and some of the best pilots in the world were molded from fire flight. The best pilots usually came from the best schools which had a lot of money to provide the best equipment possible. However, the same cannot be said about the lesser fortunate schools. All schools, rich or poor, have to pay for all the equipment (aircraft, dummy munitions, etc.) themselves. Meaning the rich schools usually were able to afford the best tech while middle and low class schools had to settle for hand-me-downs or worse. Kevin McNamara is an autistic senior in the backwater high school of Monarca High, Monarca, California. He will join the "Monarca Kestrels" fire flight squadron and fill the spot of Kristopher Kestrel, who tragically died in an aircraft collision earlier in the year. He will have to get antiquated with his teammates who are still recovering from Kristopher's death. As a flight of three jets, all of which are relics of the distant past, they will have to work together as they fight above their weight class in almost every match they enter. Kevin will have to experience grief, romance, and the harshness of gatekeeping on top of all the usual stresses of a fighter pilot if he wants his team to become the best fire flyers in the America.

Wildflowers In The Ruins: A 1917 Story by Snowdropsdream

Completed fan fiction for the film 1917: This is the very first fan fiction I've ever attempted. Please be kind. I hope you like it. It features all of the main characters, several of the others, plus many I've created. Northern France, April 1917: A Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse is sent on an urgent mission across no-man's land accompanying two Lance Corporals, but she will have her own mission to fullfil also and be tested in ways she never deemed possible. Each chapter is named after a flower, relevant to the story, and that you can encounter growing in the wild, either in Britain or Northern France, with the exception of roses and Sweet William's. This story does contain spoilers from the film so it's really worth watching it first. Chapers two (from around halfway through) to eight I've taken directly from the film. The script is copyrighted to Sam Mendes and Krysty Wilson-Cairns, although I've worked from what's spoken in the film rather than off the script. I've taken inspiration from other films, television and books (fiction and non-fiction) set in the First World War too such as Forgotten Voices, The Roses Of No-Man's Land, War Horse, The Crimson Field, Private Peaceful, They Shall Not Grow Old, Testament Of Youth, Journey's End and Birdsong. I've also taken inspiration from the beautiful book A Song For Will which is based on the true story of the gardeners and labourers from the Heligan Estate in Cornwall. Every character who isn't featured in the film 1917 is fictitious and the names are entirely made-up, although every female character's Christian name in my story belongs to a female relative of mine who was alive at the time of the First World War, for example my four Great-grandmothers were Mary-Jane, Lavinia, Ada and Alice. The Visean kingdom has recently defeated the Demon Queendom in a war and has secured a large amount of territory and also allowing other kingdoms to form such as the Empire of Japan with its famous samurai and the Spartan Kingdom with its legendary Spartan warriors. The king of the Visea kingdom was not a nice man. He had 4 sons. 3 were skilled warriors. However, the eldest, William, was looked down upon. While he was proficient as a sword, he served as a strategist for the Kingdom's armies. While the people loved him most of his family despised him. Therefore his father disowned him and exiled him to a distant village. Separated from the Kingdom as a separate country William saw this as an opportunity to build this village into a great empire. And on his journey he will bring concepts and ideas from his own world together. He will meet many people on this journey of revenge. And who knows maybe he will find love along the way? A World War Two fiction story about a young man named Albert Schroeder, a twenty one year old German soldier of the Wehrmacht, has been sent to Western Russia to fight the Soviet Union in the summer of June 1944. In military training in Northern Germany, he meets another soldier named Kurt Smith. Kurt has been his friend since military training until his death in a battle against the Soviets during the early night. After Kurt's death, Albert faces many problems with another death of one of Kurt's friends from high school, Ralph Schäfer that he had just met. Albert will then be taken to a place many soldiers of his kind have gone before, a Russian P.O.W camp and might stay there for most of the war until it is over or will Albert try to escape during the night and go on a huge journey back to Germany?
