After finding the body of a young girl in the bushes of her New Orleans neighborhood, Miles, a pessimistic but fiercely loyal high schooler, becomes curious about the girl's history. Maybe it's because she's around her own age or because no one seems to have known her but Miles can't let go of the sight of her sunken body. With the high rates of violence in her neighborhood, Miles doubts the young girl's killer will ever get caught and enlists help from Syndey, a handsome neighbor that happens to have OCD and her disabled, younger brother, Jelly, to find the truth. Miles must balance her family issues with her absent father coming back into her life, her very secret crush on a boy that doesn't like to be touched and a voodoo high priestess trying to teach her how voodoo can make everything right in her life...for a cost.

The Ghost Line
New Orleans, 1978. A city of jazz, secrets, and restless spirits. Detective Henry Calloway is a worn-down homicide investigator with a gift he never asked for - he can see the dead. The visions began when he was a child and have followed him into adulthood, into the badge, and now into the darkest case of his career. Every time he touches the dead, they whisper his name. His partner and brother-in-law, Detective Calvin Brooks, is one of the few honest men left in the New Orleans Police Department. A Black officer in the Deep South, Calvin carries his own battles - racism inside the force, corruption in the ranks, and the constant fear of losing the family he's built with Henry's sister, Evelyn. When the body of a young woman is found barefoot in the rain-soaked streets of the French Quarter - the third in a string of eerie, ritualistic murders - Henry hears her speak from beyond the grave. Others would call it madness. Calvin calls it a warning. Their investigation pulls them into the underbelly of New Orleans - smoky jazz clubs, forgotten cemeteries, voodoo parlors, and police halls thick with politics and deceit. Every clue draws them deeper into a web of spirits and sinners, where the living are sometimes more dangerous than the dead. Then they meet Celeste Duval, a hauntingly beautiful jazz singer who knows more about the unseen world than she admits. She feels the spirits too - hears their cries in the music she sings. And she knows Henry is not alone in his curse. Together, Henry and Calvin uncover a chilling truth: These killings are not random. The dead are trying to speak. And someone - or something - is tearing open the line between the living and the dead. The closer they get, the thinner that line becomes.Complete
