"You promised." I whispered, staring at the floor. This whole thing felt way too familiar; the lies, begging for someone to stay... except this time it was me.
I looked up at him, just for a brief second before he started to leave, and felt my heart shatter all over again. He wasn't even crying.
Did this even mean anything to him?
"I know what I said." Mason said, stopping at the front door. "But I can't do this Ellie. I can't put you through the same pain he did. It isn't-" His voice cracked -"It isn't fair to you."
Without another word, he walked out and slammed the door shut behind him. I didn't chase him; I didn't call after him.
I just stared while the boy I loved walked away from me.
