Chased By Their Shadows

Shadows, they do more than taunt.

Screams tear through the ears of surrounding kingdoms as citizens flee from the thick fog in the air. Cries of "They are here!" and worries about the innocent flood the air.

Before one could drop a pin, pure silence filled the air. No more cries, no more steps, no more breaths of fear or alarm. Only silence.

Silence rang for many hours as the fog continues to fill the areas people never knew existed. People lie still on the cold pavement, eyes frozen from an unknown source.

Was it magic? Such things were only written in fiction but there was no scientific theory present to disprove such thoughts.

One conscious body moved. Scarlet hair slipped off the stone as small footsteps began once more. The fog soon began to clear after those few steps, all of it being lured and trapped back into the forest. The forest of the forsaken, the forest of the dead, the forest of the living, or better yet. . .
