'If I were a dog, surely, they would have put me down by now,' the man's light blue eyes caught mine as he held my hand for a moment and signalled over to the paramedics and doctors behind the blue hospital curtain. He attempted a weak smile but his eyes told another story... Based on true accounts of people whose stories moved me and proved to me, time and time again, that love in any shape or form conquers all as well as leaves us very vulnerable once it's gone (or if it has never been there in the first place). "I love you." It wasn't him who spoke the words it was me. I was terrified to open my eyes. If I did my heart would go into overdrive and probably explode. Keeping them closed probably wasn't the best idea either because the silence was killing me. As I sat and waited for his reply my heart slowly began to race. I took a risk and opened my eyes. My heart shattered at what laid before me. Absolutely nothing. He left me. I didn't think it was possible to hear your heart break. That was until I heard it break for myself.
