Tobias leaves Abnegation behind to escape for a new life, but in the process he left behind his younger sister.
Life after her brother left became much harder, dealing with Marcus's physical, mental and now sexual abuse.
She finds out that she is Divergent and that she is in danger. But is she in more danger being divergent or being alone with Marcus.
It's her turn choose which faction she wants to go to. When she transfers to Dauntless she reunites with her brother and meets the youngest leader of Dauntless Eric.

To maintain stability, the faction leaders decide to return to the faction system. Because of this, the sixteen-year-olds that chose that year are sent back to their former factions for nine months. Tris falls into a state of depression after the war and her impromptu breakup that occurred at the end of it, and returning back to Abnegation--to the same house as her traitor brother--doesn't help. Tobias remains in Dauntless, but while he isn't exactly despondent, he does feel out of place. He doesn't fit in and cannot go on with normal life after everything that happened. Then, Choosing Day arrives. And history definitely does not repeat itself when Tris goes through the initiation process with her old friends and enemies, her ex-boyfriend, and the new sixteen-year-olds, while citizens of Chicago are mysteriously dying. I never really was made to be in Abnegation. I didn't ever fit in. All of the selflessness - I just couldn't do it. I couldn't forget myself in a matter of seconds then turn to another in need. I always thought of myself and what I would be like when I was older. Would I live in Abnegation? Could I learn to forget myself eventually? No. It just wouldn't happen.
