A soldiers duty

This is a creative writing project for one of my college classes. I'm deeply engrossed in the fantasy genre and am currently reading The Witcher series of novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. For a previous project I wrote a nine page origin story of a Dungeons and Dragons character, this story follows a similar premise. I've toyed with the idea of soldier for a character before and chose to expand on that. This time I wanted a more visceral experience so I decided to try my hand at that tone and style, hopefully you enjoy it and any feedback is appreciated.
