Then it hits me.
What do you do when the one you love is gone forever?
What do you do when you have so many things left to say, and no time to say anything?
I don't know.
I don't know what to do, now that I'll never see him again.
Dead.
The word echoes in my head, round and round, striking fresh with new pain again and again as I struggle to acquaint myself again with the meaning of the word. I wish it wasn't true.
I am never going to find love again.
There will never *be* love again.
No white dress to wear down the aisle, no shared eternity. I'm only sixteen, but I was already planning for that eternity.
Dead.
I wish I was the one dead, instead of him. A world without him is not one worth being in. It's not a world worth existing in.
My chest heaves, sour bile gathering in my mouth.
It seems like something out of an old romance novel, a lover not wanting to live without the other, but my grief is too strong to let the humor of that color my mind.
I want to die. I want to be dead.
But before I die, before I can let myself, I have one task.
Revenge.

I bump into the edge of the bed before I realize I was moving. David catches me before I fall down, moving with breathtaking speed and grace.
"What am I now?" I ask him. "What are you?"
I answer my question before the words fully exit my mouth.
