"What are you doing here?" I look from the window to Nolan. The light from his bright phone screen casts shadows on his face. "Ummm, picking you guys up?" "No, no," he shakes his head, "like why are you in Pelican Cove? Aren't you in college? Don't you have a life and friends and whatever?" "Yeah, I'm a third-year at UT Austin," I explain. "I had enough credits to graduate in December of this year, but I didn't want to do that so I just decided to get lost for a semester and a summer. My grandparents are traveling the world for their fiftieth wedding anniversary so they're letting me stay at their place. I just wanted to have fun." Nolan lets this sink in for a moment until he shakes his head, "I don't buy it." I give him a look, "Excuse me?" "No sane person would simply leave college for an entire semester of their junior year to take a break. That's social suicide," He says. "Why are you really here?" He can't know. No one can. But what's a not crazy way to explain my situation? After tragedy strikes her family, once-wild child Hunter Williams decides to drop out of college and escape the chaos by moving down to Pelican Cove, Florida. Leaving her old life behind, she starts new by taking it easy and eventually earning a job as a lifeguard at the local beach and country club. Taking this new life with open arms, there's one person she can't make her mind up about: Nolan Langford, a fellow lifeguard, and lifelong local who just returned home from college. With the chance of adventure, new beginnings, and self-forgiveness, will Hunter dive in headfirst or enter at her own risk?
