A young couple is murdered by a group of bandits and the woman is forced to give up her baby to a wise tree named Darrel. The baby is named Arnold and he is raised in the Weird Wooded Forest with Darrel and the rest of the Weird Wooded Kids. When Arnold turns 13, he comes out as gay to everyone. Everyone, however, disapproves and kick him out of the forest. The kid finds a new family to stay with. Six years later, Arnold becomes a swordsman and gets a job: to protect the princess of Hay. He hates his job but one day, an evil monster named Gareth takes over Hay and kidnaps the princess. Once Arnold is promised a huge salary if he saves da worl, he goes on the quest.

Clay had been closeted all his life and planned for it to remain that way. But, with having homophobic parents it was seemingly impossible to ever find the happiness he longed for.
