Gertrude "Gertie" Cordelia Fischer is a twelve-year-old girl who unironically wears crocs and listens to punk music. She attends James Westerly Private Academy, an expensive boarding school where everything is rich: the kids, the food, and even the dirt. Attending on a scholarship, Gertrude knows nothing of wealth and luxury, making her somewhat of an outsider but she won't let that hold her back. With her bubbly attitude and her love for archeology, Gertie takes on James Westerly Private Academy with a smile as she makes an unlikely friend and eats her lunch not-so-alone in the courtyard.

There are a few things that can make you feel as if you are living in an American high school drama - teachers complaining about the height of your skirt, your twin brother being the most popular and most sought-after boy at school, hurtful rumours that make you want to curl up and cry, punching the guy who cheated on your best friend, and falling for totally hot, totally sexy night-class professor because he's simply drool worthy and those rolled 'R's are the sexiest thing on the planet. Factor in crazy parties, Halloween costumes, fending off not-so-drunken make-out sessions, the school bad-boy, late-night snacks from McDonald's, revenge and a smart-ass dad, and the stage is set for my somewhat tragic social life.
