The group of boys weren't the first Gladers, no a young seven year old girl was. She's been living within the maze walls since. She has one friend that she never met, doesn't even know if he's real but that didn't matter. All she has is instinct, a friend in her head, and a hope to survive. She is the first Glader, she is the hope of survival with a knowing of everything and anything.

In order to save herself and the boys she is dropped into a world she's been avoiding, a truth she lied to everyone even herself about. When her world is flipped upside down due to being caught once everything changes before anyone can even say her name, Ro.

She doesn't know what she did to end up there, but she is keen on finding out by becoming a runner. She is the only girl in the glade and finds it harder to fit in even if she can put those boys into their places. She is strong and fast, so she believes she is well able to be a runner, but the boys aren't convinced. Especially Newt. He believes that he can prevent her from going into the maze amd wants to protect the only girl in the glade as he is second in command, or at least that's his excuse when he gets caught caring for her. Do they both find what they've been missing for so long? Tara has to convince not only alby but Newt and Minho that she is good enough to be a runner and that they do not need to worry about her. Gally is convinced she is too weak, and Newt thinks she might get hurt or worse, but deep down, he knows why he doesn't want her in the maze. Will he open up to Tara about his fear? And will Tara find out what WICKED want from Tara.
