While Levi got picked up by Kenny Ackerman and was raised by him, thus had the opportunity to encounter Erwin and be in the scouts, In the same area he was born, Y/N was always kept on the streets. She despised how some people were more lucky than others. Kenny was someone she looked up to, and always wanted to follow in his steps, but knowing that he found Levi and raised him somehow triggered her/his feelings. Now it turned into bitter hatred, and has fueled the fire for her to fight. She had bitter hatred to Levi naturally, and hatred for Kenny, but she knew it wasn't his fault. She became a bystander towards all of his lessons to Levi. As she grew up, she learned many essential life lessons on her own while looking into the eyes of poverty and the titan attacks. In that sense, she became more powerful. She could learn emotions but put them off aside when needed be. Morally, she kept herself reserved and no one ever know about her. Not even a name. She always went by Red because of her shoes. They were the only things that had color on them through the rusty days of the multiple years she/he lived through on the streets. Now she is a renown thief for food but not for herself, but for the sake of the people in her city. She was considered a threat to the government but not to the people. The government did not want a problem with the people especially about the limited rations, so they left her alone and she prospered in the dark where the dark basement of an abandoned home was her place to wallow in her/his nightmares. Up until Levi became captain of the scouts and heard about an awakening of a protest in his hometown, he comes to visit, not knowing who this 'Red' was. NOTE: If you're not a she or do not go by she, feel free to read it as you want. I simply could not edit every single pronoun to he/she/they in every single paragraph in every chapter :)
