Red Queen Fan fiction

When starting to write my fan fiction, I decided to use the book The Red Queen because this is one of my favorite books and the first time I read it I immediately became hooked. In the book there is always action or some new plot twist happening to keep the reader wanting more. When I began writing I didn't have much of an Idea of what to write about. Eventually, I decided to create an episode taking place in the Palace with Mare, Cal, Maven, and Shade. I tried to include a few elements from the original story including, Maven taking over the power, and Mare's brother Shade coming back, to help it continue to feel like it was still a version of the original book, just a different setting and string of events. During the writing process, there were a few conflicts that I ran into. When my essay was revised, I got feedback that my story seemed confusing at some points, and there wasn't enough background information. From there on, I went back and added in details I hadn't thought to add in the first time because I had already read the book. Each new scene that I added, I made sure there was enough details for a person who has never read the book to be able to understand quite easily. The story didn't turn out how I had imagined in the beginning but I am still happy with the outcome, as this is my first time writing a fan fiction and I got to write it about my favorite book and characters.
