Jest rok 2118. Od czterdziestu siedmiu lat około siedemdziesiąt procent ludzkiej populacji w wyniku mutacji, zwanej "Genem X", zyskało super moce, nazywane tutaj umiejętnościami, tudzież atrybutami. Były one różne, od nadludzkiej siły, przez możliwość zmiany stanu dowolnego przedmiotu, na lewitacji kończąc. Każdy człowiek miał tylko i wyłącznie jeden atrybut i nigdy nie spotkano osoby posiadającej dwa dary. Od tamtej pory powstało wiele szkół, które specjalizowały się wychowywaniu i szkoleniu superbohaterów, w tym najbardziej prestiżowa z nich, Hyperbolic Hero High School, w skrócie zwana również HHHS. Była znana ze swoich rygorystycznych zasad, przez które szkołę mogło skończyć zaledwie dwustu na tysiąc podchodzących do końcowego egzaminu zawodowego. Każdego roku było coraz więcej chętnych, a co za tym idzie, więcej osób do oblania na egzaminie wstępnym. Jednak w roku 2099, na świat przyszło dziecko obdarzone dwoma genami X, ale nie można było stwierdzić jego atrybutów, gdyż jest to możliwe, gdy dziecko ukończy siódmy rok życia.
