The Abhorsen Sabriel was born during the darkest moon, in the dead of winter. It is said that she was blessed by Mandos himself to keep the Dead down and banish creatures sculpted from evil into the darkest reaches of his Halls. 

Her abilities have cast her into a life of wandering and brutal fights. With her half-elven heritage, she has effectively outlived her closest family members, including her father. Lonely, but loyal, she protects the civilized lands of Middle-Earth from threats revived beyond life. After banishing the most recent necromancer to cross her path, she is stunned to learn of the circumstances that lead to a young hobbit being dealt a mortal blow...
