A screenplay based on my adventures going on Grateful Dead tour as a 16 year old. Based on true events but none of it is real. Format is a bit odd since the system doesn't accept the proper screenplay layout. Reads more like an epic free verse poem. Sort of enjoy it.

In 1989, a sixteen-year-old misfit falls in love with a rich hippie girl who goes off to follow The Grateful Dead during the summer, so he sets out to find her but instead finds himself.

Joaquin Chandler is the teenage son of a philandering father and corporate climbing mother. He has great intellectual potential, maybe too smart for his own good, and his rebellious behavior could ruin his life. When Joaquin falls in love with a beautiful boarding school girl, who is heading off on the Grateful Dead's 1989 summer tour, he decides to follow her on the adventure and hopefully find acceptance among the other misfits. He soon discovers that the madcap, roving carnival called the "Scene" is not what it seems and must make a decision before he is dragged into a dark world. In almost becoming lost, he finds himself.

The sequel to this is a coming-of-age novel The Excess Road. Free on Smashwords-- https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/39547

What happens when a boy from a privileged, upper-middle-class family falls for a girl in a rehabilitation facility accused of murdering her best friend? In a world of mansions, expensive prep schools, and elite colleges, where money means favors and the right price will buy a ticket into or out of just about any situation, Trent Moreau is living easy. Drugs, parties, breaking and entering, traffic violations, property damage . . . it's nothing for Trent's father to swoop in and buy his son's way out of trouble. Only this time, he and his brother have gone too far. After ruining one of his father's executive gatherings, Crewe is sent to rehab, and Trent is forced to live on campus (and on a budget) under the watchful eye of a roommate who reports back to (and is likely getting paid by) Trent's father. When he's caught tampering with files at Crewe's facility, Trent is assigned (more) community service hours to be fulfilled by spending time with seventeen-year-old Summer Evans, resident psychopath. The previous year, Summer's best friend was found dead in her backyard swimming pool. Summer, the only known witness, remembers nothing about that night. Because foul play was suspected and she was a minor, Summer and her family agreed to rehab in lieu of a prison sentence. But the more time Trent spends with Summer, and the more he learns about the events surrounding her friend's mysterious death, the less sense it all makes. What if Summer isn't guilty at all? What if she's innocent, and he can prove it? As Trent quietly falls for the extraordinary artist, his investigation is going to take a dramatic turn, sending him spiraling deeper into the egotism and entitlement edging his own privileged lifestyle. "You have no idea how badly I want to make love to you," he responds with a shake of his head. "I love you so much," he continues and my heart melts. "I love you," I whisper back. "Okay, I'm going to make love to you now, Angel. It will hurt a little, so let me know if it hurts too much," he says and leans down to kiss me. "I'll be gentle," he tells me. Keeping his eyes locked on mine he shifts his hips forward slightly and enters inside of me. My mouth widens as he enters, and I feel a slight pinch. He was right, it does hurt, but it's not terrible. "Christ! You're the sun!" he calls out. I watch his face crumble. He buries his face in my neck and then he's above me again, his hands on my cheeks again. ... For 20 year old Alison Scott, love was never something she deemed herself worthy of. Not until he came along. With his tousled brown hair, lean muscular body and smile that ignited everything south of her body; he was unbearably attractive and intimidating to Alison. She thought he could never be interested in someone like her, until he was. Was living in the same household together with someone you want and need such a great idea? The Road to You: a novel by pdwalter
10 parts Complete Mature
A driver, a hitchhiker, and seven days to reach the Pacific Coast. What begins as a road trip soon becomes a complex love story that will leave neither young man unchanged. ____________ As long as Jude Kagan can remember, he's felt like a fraud. But Matthew Banks can still remember a time when it felt like adventure was possible. Before fear set in and drove all the dreams out. Jude is the son of immigrants, an only child who went from being a high school football star to a university dropout. At 28, he's living in his parents' basement and plotting his escape. Matthew is 22, a disciplined scholar and frustrated idealist. He's spending the summer planting trees in a backwoods clear-cut, while he contemplates his next move. Now, Jude's travelling cross-country before catching a flight from the Pacific coast to Tokyo. When Matthew decides to abandon his job and hitchhike out west, he meets Jude on the road, and thus begins an adventure neither of them could have anticipated. Their journey takes them clear across the country and deep into the mystery of themselves, culminating in their visit to the spectacular Homunculus Alternative Arts Festival: an anarchic desert night of ritual, music, remembrance, and transformation under the stars. This is a story of the road, of the land, of self-discovery, and of love - in the tradition of MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO and BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. Told with humour and empathy, THE ROAD TO YOU will not disappoint those readers hungry for smart stories about how we become who we are, and how we get to where we are going. P.D. Creeping in Ryan's thoughts is the source of his ambitions; a terrible secret he's unwilling to address. Go down the rabbit hole. Explore the fascinating chaos. You'll never forget what you read. Coming of Age is about the tragic experiences some teenagers go through and many others are aware of. The story explores themes like identity, ambition, love, trauma, forgiveness, free will, and redemption. Sensitive subject matter like drug addiction, extreme poverty, abuse, and violence are touched on, but in an honest, non-exploitative way. The story is based on my experiences as a teenager dealing mental health issues and the people I knew. Writing is my way to raise awareness of the issues I went through. I want to speak to people who can relate to my story and bring understanding to those that don't.

"In retrospect, I could've gotten away with this even if my parents weren't attending Mr. Frank's Kitchen Convention this spring break." Joey's not the kind of boy who wastes the week he has off from school. Staying local while his parents are away isn't even a possibility for him, so why not spend time on a cross-country road-trip that could possibly jeopardize his friendships, his sweet van, and his life? Yet, Joey isn't going to be driving solitary, listening to blues and moping on his road-trip of a lifetime. He's persuaded a few close friends to accompany him on his trip; Levi, a smart aleck with a heart; Lucy, a childhood friend with an alter ego; Emmett, a twelve year old boy with a knack for sarcasm; and Antione, an unexpected friend whose first experience of the U.S. is a law-breaking, parent-deceiving road-trip. For only a mere day, a few in the know of Joey's journey soon grows into a few dozen, and soon a few thousand all thanks to a social-media account titled, "Joey and the Road-Trippers." After that, their adventure is exposed for all the world to see. As Joey and his trek explode, things started coming up roses. Yet, this is a teenage-driven road-trip, so it's in the cards that something is bound to go awry. From a circle of identical brothers to encounters with less-than--delighted relatives, no road-trip can be left without flaws. As the strings of lights shines down upon this cautionary, traditional American road-trip with its panic, pleasure, and pain, the group makes a pact- to never let their parents find out. (This was my final project in a Creative Writing class last year, and due to quarantine, I decided to opt for an easier, more fun piece to write. It's kind of like if "Vacation," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," and "That 70s Show" had a baby, I guess)
