A screenplay based on my adventures going on Grateful Dead tour as a 16 year old. Based on true events but none of it is real. Format is a bit odd since the system doesn't accept the proper screenplay layout. Reads more like an epic free verse poem. Sort of enjoy it.

In 1989, a sixteen-year-old misfit falls in love with a rich hippie girl who goes off to follow The Grateful Dead during the summer, so he sets out to find her but instead finds himself.

Joaquin Chandler is the teenage son of a philandering father and corporate climbing mother. He has great intellectual potential, maybe too smart for his own good, and his rebellious behavior could ruin his life. When Joaquin falls in love with a beautiful boarding school girl, who is heading off on the Grateful Dead's 1989 summer tour, he decides to follow her on the adventure and hopefully find acceptance among the other misfits. He soon discovers that the madcap, roving carnival called the "Scene" is not what it seems and must make a decision before he is dragged into a dark world. In almost becoming lost, he finds himself.

The sequel to this is a coming-of-age novel The Excess Road. Free on Smashwords-- https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/39547

"In retrospect, I could've gotten away with this even if my parents weren't attending Mr. Frank's Kitchen Convention this spring break." Joey's not the kind of boy who wastes the week he has off from school. Staying local while his parents are away isn't even a possibility for him, so why not spend time on a cross-country road-trip that could possibly jeopardize his friendships, his sweet van, and his life? Yet, Joey isn't going to be driving solitary, listening to blues and moping on his road-trip of a lifetime. He's persuaded a few close friends to accompany him on his trip; Levi, a smart aleck with a heart; Lucy, a childhood friend with an alter ego; Emmett, a twelve year old boy with a knack for sarcasm; and Antione, an unexpected friend whose first experience of the U.S. is a law-breaking, parent-deceiving road-trip. For only a mere day, a few in the know of Joey's journey soon grows into a few dozen, and soon a few thousand all thanks to a social-media account titled, "Joey and the Road-Trippers." After that, their adventure is exposed for all the world to see. As Joey and his trek explode, things started coming up roses. Yet, this is a teenage-driven road-trip, so it's in the cards that something is bound to go awry. From a circle of identical brothers to encounters with less-than--delighted relatives, no road-trip can be left without flaws. As the strings of lights shines down upon this cautionary, traditional American road-trip with its panic, pleasure, and pain, the group makes a pact- to never let their parents find out. (This was my final project in a Creative Writing class last year, and due to quarantine, I decided to opt for an easier, more fun piece to write. It's kind of like if "Vacation," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," and "That 70s Show" had a baby, I guess)

******* " If I were you, Evelyn, I would put that gun down and stand back. " Her sickening voice traveled to my ears. I turned around to look at her dead in the eyes. She gulped and cowered a little at the direct eye contact. Keeping my eyes locked on hers, a menacing look in mine, I sauntered towards her. My stance, now confident and terrifying for her. " And if I were you, I would have run a long time ago. But look what you did. You came right in. And you tried to take what was mine. Again. Do you think I'll let you walk away now? " I sneered in a low threatening voice. A slow victorious smirk made its way across my face as I saw complete terror finally set into her evil brown eyes. ******** Evelyn Rose Johnson is a 21-year-old, not-so-normal girl living in New York. She has secrets, some her own and some her family's. Her own secrets are easy for her to handle, her family's, not so much. But what they don't know is the rebellious badass girl hidden under the facade. Fed up with the fake world she lives in and the fake people that surround her at all times, she runs away in her getaway car to discover the truth about that one mysterious night and to save herself from her money blinded aunt and her dangerous men. She leaves home one warm summer evening with nothing but a yellow backpack filled with her coveted dad's letters he's been sending her for the past months, and some bare necessities. She's determined to seek him out and go live with him down on the West Coast, where he has a temporary job. The last thing April expects is almost being hit by a car. The owner of the vehicle? It was not noticed exactly when people began to fall victim to the broken life of routine and monotony but by the time humanity realized that witnessing strong emotion triggered violence in the infected, it was too late... In a world, where showing emotion is a dangerous weakness, love becomes the only beacon of hope. Evelyn Li is not a fan of risk. Confined to the safety of an underground bunker for the past two years, when Evie stumbles upon a radio broadcast hosted by a mysterious boy with a sharp tongue and an impressive record collection, she's inspired to embark on a mission fuelled by the belief that her family might still be out there (and definitely not because she's desperate to finally meet the boy whose voice has been her sole companion since the darkness descended). Jonathan Johnson is not an optimist and definitely not a romantic. He wasn't at all surprised when the world ended or even when the Soulless took over the streets. With the weight of rising tensions in the colonies, an absentee father, and heart-breaking tragedy resting on his shoulders, Jonathan would much rather escape into his record collection and secret radio broadcast than deal with the general bleakness of life in the apocalypse. As he is reluctantly roped into Evie's search for links to her past, Jonathan begins to wonder if he can ever truly escape his. Together, the unlikely pair must navigate the treacherous landscapes of both the unforgiving world around them and the complicated emotions within. Will their connection withstand the trials of a world consumed by darkness, or will it become just another casualty of the apocalypse? - Wattpad @ScienceFiction "Ambassadors' Picks," July 2024 - Wattpad @ScienceFiction "18 SciFi Romance Stories We're Obsessed With," November 2024 - #4 Dystopian - #1 Cure
