Kai was very young when her life went to hell ,losing people and things close to her. Living life in Inria isn't an easy task everyone here was so stuck up and want everyone to think they much more important  than you, and frankly it gets on your nerve, maybe at one point in her life Kai would of fought back but her spirit had been broken, broken by her 'family' because she was powerless and without anyone to heal her spirit she stayed this way but maybe when luck seems to change for the better and she is finally allowed to go to school Kai could heal her old scars and find the things she lost.
