No one can remember the past, and all are uncertain if they have a future. 

Iris finds it a struggle to get through twenty-four hours as resources are limited, her best friend is dead and she must risk her own life to help her last surviving member of her family. She is outcasted from The Civitatis, along with thousands of others, where 25% of the population is the richest of the rich. She is a Grit.

As her own kind is fading is now an urban legend to citizens of The Civitatis, the Grit's must keep hidden from The Dominorum. That is what Iris' job is, to gather food and other supplies from The Civitatis to help out the community and her own family. Any day know, she could be captured and killed.

But being a Gatherer is not always the best job within the society. Sometimes you don't know what you lay your hands on. But when a Dominorum offers for help to revive her dead friend, Iris gladly accepts.

But all magic has a blind spot, and the magician never reveals his tricks.
