Almond (AH-mond) Hill has been mute as long as they can remember, which they have no problem with. They can still communicate with their closest and only friend Abelle, short for Mirabelle, who taught herself and Almond sign language when they were little. Some people do have a problem with the fact that Almond is mute, mainly their parents, which could be a problem at times. They have a supportive older sister, but ever since their sister's high school senior year began, she's almost never home. To escape the real world, Almond loves to be outside, specifically when it's almost winter, dried up leaves are still on the floor of the earth and susceptible to Almond's Vans. They like to imagine that each leaf is a worry or problem, being crushed and eliminated from their mind. Almond thought that their whole high school life was going to be all about education, Abelle, music, and leaves, but then Axil moved into town. And boy did their world flip and spin many times, thrown off of the axis of predictable consistency.
