Alec Lightwood is a seventeen year old Shadowhunter in training for what's called 'The Clave'. His parents are head Shadowhunter's there. The tradition is that Alec will graduate from Lightshade High and then move up to 'The Institute' which is a college for Shadowhunter's. That was the plan...
