Riku, Sora, Kairi, and (y/n) have been best friends since they were five. Riku, Kairi, and (y/n) disappear when the islands disappear. 

Now that their home had disappeared, Sora appears in a refugee world called Traverse Town. With the help of Donald and Goofy, Sora travels the worlds and battles the heartless. 

They encounter Riku a few times, but Riku doesn't seem to want to join them. 

Instead he just disappears to another world called Hollow Bastion where Sora must battle him to save him from darkness and save Kairi and (y/n) from sleeping forever.
