"What the hell is wrong with you? Are you really going to put your own mate in prison?"

I wrapped my hands around the cold steel bars that separated us only slightly. Even in the dimly lit, musty jail I watched Azrael's stoic face upturn into a smug, sadistic smile.

"You seem to forget, mate." His words riddled with venom,

"Without me you are nothing."

I gripped the bars painfully harder as I was unable to anything else, my knuckles turning white. I shook my head defiantly even as hot tears silently rolled down my cheeks.

"I own you."

Azrael leaned closer and reached his arm between the bars, grabbing ahold of my face before I could pull away. He tilted his head as he used his thumb to stroke my tear stained cheek.

"There isn't a breath you breathe that doesn't belong to me and no amount of your little magic will ever change that."

The Moon Goddess played a cruel joke when She paired Azrael and Mercy as mates. The Alpha of Death and a girl with magical healing abilities were doomed before they even met. The two were the exact foil of the other, they were magnets constantly repelling away from one another.

Then why was it, no matter what the Mercy or Azrael did...They couldn't stay away.

I felt the bed dip as he sat down on the other side but I focused solely on my task until I was done. "This is a pillow barrier. Meaning, you don't breach this side of the pillows." I instructed, my voice firm. "What if I don't want anything between us?" Phoenix said in a husky voice, and I risked a glance. Bad choice. His eyes were dark and his gaze was on my lips, to my chest, then back to my lips. "Eyes up here, buddy." I snapped the third time his eyes went down to my chest. All he did was turn off the lights. When it was dark, he whispered," Can't I admire what is mine?" I had no answer, and turned on my side. He sighed. Despite taking two naps today, I was out cold the minute my head hit my pillow. I could only hope that in the morning, the pillow barrier was still there. ***** Adira has a secret, one she would do anything to protect. My dream continued the one I'd been having for the past couple of nights. I ran, gasping for breath, through the familiar woods from a dark figure behind me. The faster I tried to run, the slower I seemed to go, until it was like I was running in place. I knew I needed to run. I was terrified of what the figure would do when he caught me. "Mara Leigh," a deep, smooth voice called. It was almost hypnotic. That was new. The figure had never spoke before now. I ran as fast as I could go, eyes searching the forest floor for a big stick or something that I could use to defend myself. "Mara Leigh!" the voice came again, this time more insistent. The forest slowly started to fade and I started to awake to someone shaking my shoulders. "Beau?" I mumbled, turning my head to the side. What's Beau doing in my room this time of night? Why is he shaking me? "Do not call me that name." My eyes flew open as I jumped at the voice from my dream. A face was right in front of mine, and just like the voice, it wasn't Beau. Before I could form a scream, a hand covered my mouth. I tried to bite it but I couldn't get my mouth to open. He's too strong. I started to use my whole body to try to get away, but he crawled on top of me, holding me down. I pulled the hidden knife out from under my pillow and slashed as hard as I could at him, but he just grabbed my wrist and squeezed it until the pain made me drop the knife. Then he grabbed both my hands in one of his and held them over my head. He held me down while I struggled. I grunted and moved and tried to kick and scream, but I only wore myself out. Exhausted, I stopped thrashing and let the tears flow freely down my cheeks. I didn't know what to do, so I just tried to prepare myself for whatever was coming.

My Monster Mate (Book I)

57 parts Complete

Book One in the My Mate Series - "Elijah," Alexander calls in this terrifying voice. I know it's dangerous but I ignore him, I keep my eyes shut and continue to rock myself back and forth, my hands blocking my ears. I didn't want to look at him, I didn't want to see those black orbs. "Look at me." He demands, his voice depicting his rage. "No," I whisper. "Look at me or I swear, I will do it!" He shouts. I'm not completely sure what 'it' is but I'm sure it has to do with death. Although the poor kid probably wants exactly that. I want that for him right now. It must be a lot less painful than what he's probably going through. Slowly, I reluctantly remove my hands from my ears and pick up my head from my knees, I open my eyes gazing up at him. As soon as I do - I wish I hadn't. Because as soon as I do Alexander snaps his neck. I gasp, tears sliding down my cheeks even faster than they were before. My mate is a monster. "I told you." He laughs, "I am a monster. And guess what?" He pauses, as if daring me to say something, "I don't intend on changing for anyone and especially not you." - Copyright © Mbalii *NOT man x man. *Completed.
