Fire, Air, Water, Earth. Long ago, the four nations lived in peace and prosperity, but none were more prosperous then the Fire-Nation. Fire lord Sozin in all his benevolent generosity wished to share this with the other nations, but it was all ruined when the Avatar attacked.
The Avatar, once someone that his eminance regarded as a brother, selfishly opposed Sozins wishes, fearing that such unity would render him obsolete. He poisoned the minds of the other nation's telling them we were preparing for war. Firelord Sozin did what he could but The Avatar refused to accept the changing times and so the two fought for three days and nights the raw power causing the volcanoes to erupt burying a whole village in ash.
Finally Sozin triumphed. But it was too late the Air Nomad's had been turned against the Fire Nation. That was one-hundred years ago and the war rages on. But I believe that soon the blood and the fighting and the dying will end. And there will be peace.
