Before she became Jane Adler, she was Jane Roth, and Jane Roth was the great love of Sam Carmichael's life. For six years, they were practically inseparable, until their differing career paths saw the relationship come to its conclusion.
Fast forward 30+ years, it's 2009, it's New Year's Eve, and Jane's marriage to Jake hangs by a thread because of his foolish misdemeanour. Sam's divorced, has been for years, and Jane finds herself drawn to him in a way she hasn't done for years.
Is it unfinished business? Or a burning desire to pick up where they left off over half a lifetime ago?

For the purposes of this ficlet, the events of Mamma Mia, HWGA and It's Complicated have not happened, and Jane and Jake are still together.
