The grieving Walters family faces near ruin when their deceased son has left them a seemingly impossible debt to pay. They pay as much as they can handle but when the men who want the money come to burn their family to the ground, they must find a way to save themselves from the very men who fought to protect them in the Civil War not several months ago. Grace Walters finds herself spun in a web of darkness when she trusts a group of thieves who might be more dangerous then the men they are supposedly helping them be free of. When everyone is evil is there any light left anywhere? Left in anyone? Or has everyone finally chosen to show their real stone hearts that they've been hiding under layers of a facade that has faded over time.

The cities are gone. The governments fell. The lucky died fast. Grace Selene has lost everything-the husband she loved, the child she couldn't save, the world she once understood. All that remains is the road, her healer's pack, and a promise to keep moving. When a strange, luminous moss heals a wound that should have killed her, Grace begins to suspect the world isn't finished with her yet. Power hums beneath her skin-wild, ancient, and impossible. It could save what's left of humanity...or destroy her. Across the ashes of the Midwest, rumors whisper of a place called Haven-a settlement where fires still burn through the night. Grace means to find it, or die trying. On the same road walks Steve Rogers, a soldier burdened by ghosts of his own. Trained to protect and born to lead, he's searching for something worth defending again. When their paths cross, survival stops being a solitary act-and becomes a promise neither of them expected to make. In a land where mercy is rarer than sunlight, When the World Went Quiet begins the story of what comes after the end-of healing, hope, and the kind of love that can survive the silence. ⚠️This is not a sunshine story. It is dark and gritty, while the characters will eventually get their happily ever after it is not a story for the faint of heart. There is mention of sexual assault, rape, abuse, forced pregnancy , abortions, murder and death. Read with caution ⚠️
