Jae Merka lives in the poor nation of Dannya Piama, barely making enough khurda by selling her art to support her and her father. She sleeps in a rundown structure that couldn't even be called a house, and rests on once-clean scraps of fabric that her father optimistically calls "blankets."
One quiet morning her art is discovered by an official from the Palace of Lyphi. Jae is transported to the Palace against her will and is ordered by the Queen of the Nation of Lyphi to paint portraits of the royal family.
A stunning betrayal forces Jae to choose between her growing love for the mysterious young prince and her nation. Along the way, secrets will be told, a rebellion will be formed, and Jae's past will be revealed.
