In the Underground, old age is impossible and a quiet, painless death unheard of. Between pounding pistons, grinding gears, and scorching steam, not to mention the labyrinth of the Underground itself, one cannot hope to survive for long. Sparks is a Sootsprite, and worker in this hellish world below the City. She is a Breadwinner, a thief who serves as a main provider for her people. As one such leader in her society, she has become a favorite among both the younger and older workers. Little do they know, evil is stirring on the corrupted Surface. When a mysterious figure reappears in her life, she begins to understand what truly happened to her father, who vanished early in her childhood. Her life is further complicated by Cole, a Surfacer dignitary who has escaped his horrible family and accidentally slipped into the dangerous realm of the Underground. Everything they both know is a lie, and as their destinies intertwine, it will take everything they have to untangle themselves from the futures neither of them want and save their two very different worlds.

WARNING: Smoking, violence, and killing are included in this story. Not intended for a young audience. It's 2075, and currently 11 billion people walk the surface of this planet. Out of that number, my hometown Chantless takes up 64,730. Out of that, one of them is me. A few years ago, the government finally realized they needed to do something about our population. So they decided to make a game out of it. They call it "Do You Have Talent?" They say it's a game show that puts people's abilities and talents to the test. To see if they are worth keeping alive. So far, I've lost my father, my friend, and my brother to this little "game". And I may be next. But I won't let that happen. For I have a trick up my sleeve in my own game. ----------- Jasmine is a 16-almost-17 year old girl living in Chantless, a poor town located close to the ocean. She seems like an ordinary girl, struggling to survive with little food, contaminated water, and a stub of a hand every day, but she has a secret no one else knows. Unexpectedly, she is chosen to participate in "Do You Have Talent?"; a wicked and ruthless game show created by the government to handle overpopulation. She meets Liz and Bryan, two other contestants who have also lost family members from this heartless monstrosity. Jasmine befriends them, and finally she has something to lose in her life. But when time starts to run out, she will be forced to make a decision; save her friends, or continue to keep her power a secret?

Skye Jones knew the world had been screwed to hell years ago. What she didn't realise is that she would be expected to save it. After five years in an isolated facility run by the American government with other kids like her, Skye is released into the nightmare beyond the barbed wire walls to trial a safe route to Washington DC. It's the first breath of fresh, unfamiliar air which she wouldn't get beaten for, but that doesn't take away the danger. She's unprotected and isolated because of who she is, but she's one of the most dangerous things out there. With death waiting around the corner at every turn, Skye's group focuses on their main goal: the capital. Yet, this isn't as straightforward as they thought, and they begin wonder if they'll live to make it out the other end. [60'000 - 70'000 words]
