Society expects us to be what it wants: perfect. For those who don't meet those standards (which is everyone), they hear how horrible they are because they refuse to abide by those rules and how they should change themselves in order to not be outcasted from those who mostly fit this criteria (aka "normal" people). As a pansexual, feminine, female-to-male transgender, I have heard almost everyday of my life of who and what I'm supposed to be. In this poem, I have written what I hear from society the most in the order of what I heard first.

Normal
Nova is a girl who has been bullied for not being normal, and as a result tries her best to be "normal". This ends up pushing the people she cares about away, and she uncovers something new about herself that she hates. ------- Normal. What does it mean to be normal? Other people always seem to know what it means to be normal, but I can never figure it out. "Why can't you just be normal?" Those six words ring over and over and over again in my head every single day of my life. It feels like every part of me is being ripped apart piece by piece whenever I hear those words in my head, and I don't know how to make it stop. What is so wrong about my life, that tears run down my cheeks every single night? To Be Broken
What does it mean to be broken? (I wrote this poem myself) ______________________________ Why be sad? When no one knows how bad You feel your Pain makes you sore. Why be mad? When no one can tell How hard you fell How it hurts MORE than a tad. Why be happy? Be like all those sappy People pretending to be What they want you to see. Why be frightened? Senses heightened Screaming, As sick people are beaming. Why be tired? When no one knows How your wired How you grow. Why be honest? When all known is a broken promise When no one believes you Even if what you say is true. Why hurt? When no one feels your pain When no one's ever alert When you never feel sane. Why pretend? When you know in the end No one will be there Because no one cares. Why care? When no one cares enough for you To know what your going through They think your heart is unfair. Why try?
