In a perfect world, Beau Karlin and her brother Nathan would still be living with their biological parents in their childhood home back near London. Nathan wouldn't be a permanent resident in the 'Lake House: Home for the mentally ill' and Beau wouldn't be trapped in a nightmare relationship.

The world isn't perfect though, that they know for sure. And as Nathan continues to struggle with his mental stability and Beau finds it harder to remain strong the pair need a way out and they need it fast.
Hearing voices coming from the locked attic bedroom that once belonged to a boy who drowned himself is seemingly just a story that comes as the result of Nathan's over-reactive mind.
Being rescued from her abusive lover by a boy that smells like fresh lake water is just something Beau overlooks but perhaps Japan's 'Red string of fate' theory is actually a scary reality...
