Overhead branches smacked at them and tree roots threatened to knock them over, but they didn't give their surroundings any notice, their full attention on each other and tracking the fading howl. This was how Leo and Raph instantly knew when Mikey was no longer with them, the shriek and sudden silence that followed the lack of footfalls causing them to stop in their tracks. His name was screamed and then they were sprinting back for him, breaking into a small clearing in time to see a hulking beast holding their unconscious baby brother to the ground, flaring red eyes turning to them.
