Elise Monreau simultaneously has everything she could ever want - good grades, friends, free time, a strong parental figure - and at the same time feels like she has nothing.
No one she feels completely comfortable having a heart-to-heart with.
No one she could possibly ask for love advice, or talk about periods, or worry over shaving.
And she's kind of used to it: her ex-Marines of a cousin's expectations, her listless chores, her endless responsibility to keep a resolute middle ground when her friends start arguing over the dumbest things.
She's ready for some sort of change.
