When we are born we often take on the life that developed around us. Whether it is to follow that path or find a new one. For many this leaves reason to create what you make of it and make your life your own regardless of your uprising. However for many minorities and black people regardless of who you are and what you make from it, you cannot make anything from if you are shot and dead, or stripped voiceless from the very home that was supposed protect you.
These are a collection of poems that touch upon the struggles of black life in America. Some of which are mine and others from famous authors and people I know just all like. Let's talk about "forbidden topics" and change our understanding of each and the world around us.

Nothing Like That
Life, that's the funny thing about it. We always wanted things to go the way that we imagined it too, but of course plans just always have to change. What if we could've thought about how we wanted our lives to go from in the womb? Wouldn't that make everything so much better? What if we could've created our husbands/wives for ourselves, would that make us a God/Deity? Maybe, just maybe. We were all just living our truths and we needed people to come into our lives to shine the light where we always played blind to. This was about to be the reality of everything that we tried so hard to envisioned for ourselves. Focus On The Light : friendships, love & family {On-going}
Follow a group of young adults taking their first steps into adulthood as life teaches them countless lessons. Junior year in college is a crucial time as you're reaching the end of the educational race and get ready to close yet another essential chapter of your life. Important decisions need to be taken as the next year will be a validation of everything you planned for your future, or tried to. On the other hand, you also have life to experience in a more personal aspect, joggling with friendships, family and love while not trying to lose your sanity. And in the mist of it all, you're still trying to find out who you truly are. Dark times might happen more than you imagined, but in those trying times, even if it seems impossible to do so, don't forget to focus on the light. The Overshared And Underappreciated Mind Of A Hopeless Romantic
Writing has always been a secret indulgence. It's something I keep to myself most days and it will continue to be something I share with very few people. Bound in these flimsy plastic rings is a brief rundown of me. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Nothing in here is terribly out of the ordinary for a teen girl who grew up before she was supposed to. A girl whose life was never hers to live. A lot of the time, I never know what's going on. I find it helpful to write down what I don't understand to try and make sense of the world around me. Writing these pieces has helped me find peace in my life. This class has proven more cathartic than I thought. That being said, there are some topics that can be sensitive here. I've starred the titles that could be triggering for some in the table of contents. If you are bothered by mentions of: abuse, self harm, or talks about mental health and illnesses, I suggest avoiding the starred titles. "I love you god knows I do but I can't do this. I can't. I put up with the phone calls, the text messages, social media, random chicks, not coming home, and everything else. Let alone a baby you conceived by some random chick. I'd be a fool to marry you. I'm sorry but it's time I loved me more than you" I looked at him once more as a tear slid down his face as he stood there lost for words.
