Beuren Elendil became friend with Thorin of Durin when they were quite young. Their first battle was fought together, their first tragedy was faced together, they found love within one another. But when a fight splits them a part, Beuren will take to the responsibility she was born into, and Thorin will continue on. However, when a certain wizard gets involved, they will find themselves again side by side, fighting to reclaim their stolen homeland. Will they prevail? Will the king under the mountain be able to rekindle the love he snuffed out long ago? Or will Beuren's burden keep them apart?

Thorin Oakenshield survived the battle as did his nephews and is King under the mountain. It has been a few years since the journey and his dear friend Bilbo has returned for a visit he comes at a bad time though. Thorin is being pressured into marriage by the council so there will be a Durin heir, only the Dwarves are not the only ones trying to force the king into a marriage. Again she falls in love with a man - the only one she trusts, but who doesn't fit into her world in which only misery prevails. Amara makes him want to punch something, but at the same time, with each day, his desire for her outweighs his aggravation with her. Amara of Rivendell has devoted her life to healing, but she never expected to meet someone like Thorin. The proud, stubborn dwarf challenges her to no end, and in return, she works him until he swears revenge. But along the way, she realizes there is more to the King Under the Mountain than meets the eye, and as they come to know one another, she becomes more determined to break down his walls and bring some happiness into his life. But, while Azog the Defiler is gone, another has taken his place and like his predecessor, has vowed to end the line of Durin for once and for all, and just might be successful in shattering the fragile peace Thorin and Amara find in each other's arms.Complete
