This is the tale of the Second World War. Rather, a tale of the soldiers who fought it. Jack Walters, a young and youthful British boy living in the small village of Bathampton, is called up to the British Army during the waning days of the Second World War. After watching his childhood best friend depart a year earlier for Burma, he must endure the horrific trials of warfare during the final thrust through North-West Europe alone. As he struggles to survive in the wheat-fields of Hill 112, the Seine river, the disastrous Operation Market Garden, the freezing Ardennes, the Reichswald Forest and the climactic crossing of the Rhine, he must do all he can to bring himself and his comrades back home alive.
