In the year 2245 A.D, a rampant infection known as the Nanites syndrome nearly brought the extinction of mankind by turning every Sentient machine against them, orchestrating numerous massacres which led  them to go underground. Ten years later after the last city of earth prime fell to the hands of machines, a scavenger named Cody miles gets infected by Nanites while salvaging a fallen war machine but instead of turning his life extension implants against him, he becomes something else....something very powerful.All Rights Reserved

-Cross-post from my Ao3- The Aftermath at Mount Massive is part one of a three part series called Survivors. This part is done. It is a fanfic for the game Outlast, set after the first game/DLC. However, you don't have to know much about the game to jump in. This story follows an independent journalist named Miles Upshur who received an email from a whistleblower, Waylon Park, who worked at Murkoff Psychiatric Systems: Mount Massive. The hospital was supposed to be run as a charity, offering help to those who could not pay, or for those who other hospitals wouldn't accept. However, things weren't as they seemed and Murkoff was using the hospital as a cover for a laboratory where they were performing experiments on humans. The end result of such experiments was the creation of Project Walrider, a bio-nanite parasite that lives inside a human body. Miles stumbles into the facility during a security breach and riot. He manages to survive the night but in doing so becomes infected with the nanites, becoming the new host for Project Walrider. The Aftermath of Mount Massive is about Miles coming to terms with what being the Host means for both his humanity and future.
