A doença atinge o cérebro da criança, e lhe dando habilidades especiais, desde ser um gênio, até soltar fogo pela boca. Porém uma parte muito grande das crianças morre pois seus cérebros não conseguem se adaptar com as novas "funções", e os que sobrevivem são tirados de suas famílias e mandados para serem "curados" em campos de custódia, mas ninguém sabe a verdade.
