In the dystopian world, society is divided into five clans: the Astim, the Eliverna, the Hallix, the Fira, and the Raylend. At the age of sixteen, each individual must participate in the annual Extraction Ceremony to determine their clan. These clans not only configure who you are, but how you will live in the next few years to come. Whether it be on the basis of intellect, tranquility, generosity, courage, or honesty is decided by your results. For Jayce Chresfield, this is more than a simple choice. Her devotion to her family's safety and her very being, bring forth an internal struggle. During Jayce's difficult transition process, she finds herself questioning whom she can truly rely on. A budding romance also ensues between Jayce and an intriguing and intimidating, but aggravating boy. But in the midst of it all, Jayce withholds a daunting secret. One she chose to retain from the world for it holds the difference between life and death. It is with this secret she can ultimately determine the fate of those she loves, which either will grant their protection or their very destruction.

Do you like the world you live in? What if it was a version of something you wished you could do? What about switching off your emotions? This is the world Selene lives in. Anxiety, sadness, anger; they shouldn't exist. And if they do, they're eradicated. Society decided emotional unpredictability was a threat to order. There's no place for them. Selene has spent most of her life wearing a mask whilst everything builds up under. She longs to be understood - and she finds someone who seems to offer just that, through a black-market messaging app. However, in a society where everything is hidden behind meaning, can she really trust the stranger she's just met? And how far is she willing to go before the risk outweighs the desire to finally be seen?
