Marie Stahlbaum thought this Christmas would be the one where her godfather eases up on his bizarre gifts. Instead, she receives something so out of the ordinary she must take a moment to collect her sanity.
Marie's godfather, Hank Drosselmeyer, brilliant inventor and clockmaker, is an old blind fool, and Marie is more than convinced that he has no place as a scientist when he decides to give her a wolf for Christmas.
But this wolf has the mind of a human, and when Drosselmeyer mysteriously disappears, Marie decides to seek help from this battered old wolf, and ends up in a world ruled by a king who isn't the true monarch. Joined by her brother, Fritz, and her unlikely alliance with the wolf fighter, nicknamed Nutcracker for his brutality, Marie must overcome all sorts of new challenges with this strange new world.
All Marie can wish for at this point is her godfather's safety, as much of an idiot he is, and figure out what the Wolf King could possibly want.
Nutcracker is out for vengeance . . . Sort-of. Banished from his home world in the form of a wolf, Nutcracker has had to learn the hard way that not all things come easily to an animal in this new world. But he's been trapped for years.
The Wolf King is responsible for tossing Nutcracker out a portal and leaving him to defend himself, even though Nutcracker was blamed. Betrayed.
These two different people will have to get over their own suspicions to find Drosselmeyer before it's too late.
*Fractured fairy tale based on "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" and "Beauty and the Beast."*
